Recently the Baldy Hughes community partnered with the Prince George Council of Seniors to collaborate on the 10th annual Seniors Day at the BC Northern Exhibition.

Baldy Hughes helped create a wonderful event at the exhibition where seniors could stop and purchase a lunch while enjoying the Info Fair held in Kin 3 of the CN Centre.

Preparation for the event was an amazing opportunity for the residents of Baldy Hughes to learn about volunteerism, all while utilizing skills learned in our Community Culinary Arts Program.

Over a two day period, residents prepared  2,000 sandwiches in our commercial kitchen, and then transported these to the exhibition where several of the members of our Resident Leadership Program helped run the food area, working alongside members of the Council of Seniors in serving the visiting seniors.

The entire process of planning and executing the event was a unique opportunity for our residents to experience the many rewards of community service and volunteerism, all while demonstrating their kitchen and food preparation skills learned in the culinary program.

With donations from local businesses to the Seniors’ Council to purchase the supplies, and support for our culinary program from the Province of BC by way of a community gaming grant, it was wonderful to see our deserving local senior citizens enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying a summer’s day at the exhibition!
