Baldy Hughes is located on a retired NATO radar station that was constructed in the 1950’s. Most of the buildings have been renovated and retrofitted to suit our therapeutic community and farm. Part of the experience of being at Baldy Hughes is helping to further develop the community, to help benefit future residents who may need the program. Thus residents may have a chance to be part of construction and renovation projects during their stay. The site is on 166 acres of beautiful woodland property. Our recreational amenities  include a full-sized gymnasium with weight and cardio training equipment. We also have a baseball diamond, hiking trails, a music room with instruments and PA system, a lift-equipped tubing and hill, an Arts Centre, TV lounge areas and a school.

Baldy Hughes has 4 separate dormitory buildings and residents are in double or triple-occupancy rooms. Residents share washroom facilities on each floor, as well as common areas, TV lounges and a community dining hall.

We accept residents who are funded by Medical Employment Insurance, as well as private insurers (EAP etc). As Medical EI only covers a limited time of treatment, residents will have to begin making alternate funding arrangements upon their admission to the program to cover the entire duration of their stay. The details of payment can be arranged by our Admissions Coordinator with the provider.

Baldy Hughes is also a registered service provider with Medicard. Medicard is a simple and fast financing option that has a high approval rate, competitive interest rates and low monthly payments. For more details visit www.medicard.com or ask us to fax you a copy of the Medicard brochure.

Yes, we have a limited number of beds available for BC residents via the Ministry of Social Development & Social Innovation . The appropriate information and form is included in the application package.

Baldy Hughes’ self-pay rate is $3,000.00 CDN per month of treatment. Upon admission a self-pay resident must secure one month of funding. A plan for payment must be pre-approved by the Admissions Coordinator prior to admission. Residents on EI Sickness Benefits, or on a pension, would pay 80% of their monthly benefits value as fees (minimum $1,000 per month). Residents on EI may be required to complete a Ministry of Social Development application at intake time, in order to ensure that funding for the remainder of the 12 month program is secured. Prescription expenses are not included in the monthly rate and payment arrangements for these must be in place before admission. Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Community & Farm does not refund resident fees except in the case of a planned discharge and at the Executive Director’s discretion. Thirty days’ written notice of withdrawal from the program must be provided to receive a refund of fees paid in advance, and no refunds are provided for a partial month. Refunds are made only to the person or organization that directly paid the fee.
